Lewiatan Arbitration Moot Court

We are honoured to present to you the first Polish arbitration moot court organized by the Lewiatan Court of Arbitration and Young Arbitration Practitioners in Poland (YAPP), which is addressed to the trainees of the Polish advocates’ and legal advisors’ bars.

Lewiatan Arbitration Moot Court is a type of moot court competition consisting of a simulation of a trial before an arbitration court based on a fictitious statement of facts. The participants become the parties’ counsels, prepare the strategy for conducting the case and the relevant written statements, and represent their clients during the trial. The long tradition of moot courts confirms the effectiveness and success of such a form of legal education. The organizers were particularly inspired by the success of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the greatest world moot court dealing with international commercial arbitration, addressed to students of law.

The competition is open to the trainees of Polish advocates’ and legal advisors’ bars. Each team may consist of 2-4 members. The competition is divided into two parts: a written one (optional) and an oral one (obligatory). The final and prize-giving will be held on 31 May 2012 at an Arbitration Picnic organized yearly by the Lewiatan Court of Arbitration. Among the winners’ prizes is the chance to participate in Vienna Arbitration Days 2013.

The first edition of the competition concerns a construction dispute governed by Polish law, and will be conducted in Polish. Teams can register from this date until 16 March 2012. All details are stated in the Rules, which together with the Registration Form is available on the Polish website.
