Program promotion arbitration
On November 16, 2009, the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan launched a new project called “Promotion of amicable methods of commercial dispute resolution”, co-financed by the European Social Fund. Dr Beata Gessel-Kalinowska vel Kalisz, an arbitrator and Vice President of the Court, is the project coordinator .
The aim of the project is to popularize the rules of conducting arbitration proceedings and to promote benefiting from arbitration in business relations among entrepreneurs and lawyers. The information campaign will be addressed to 2 thousand active members of PCPE Lewiatan.
Scheduled activities are amongothers:
- International conference “Dispute Resolution in M&A Transactions: Tactics, Challenges, Defences”. It will be held on 13-14 May 2010. ArbitralWomen, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), ICC Polska and American Bar Association are the conference partners. It will be the first international conference on arbitration in Poland of such importance. Polish and international prominent panellists and guests, specialized in arbitration, have been invited. The conference is held under the honorary auspices of the Minister of Foreign Affaires of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Radosław Sikorski. The Advisory Board consists of prof. Louise Barrington (Kings College, UK), prof. Grzegorz Domański (DZP), Jason Fry (ICC Secretary General), prof. Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler (Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler), Barton Legum (Salans), Piotr Nowaczyk (Salans, ICC member), prof. Jerzy Rajski (Warsaw University), dr Jolanta Samochowiec Matys (ASA, Polish-SwissChamber of Commerce), Audley Sheppard (Clifford Chance London), prof. Stanisław Sołtysiński (SK&S), prof. Andrzej Szumański (Jagiellonian University) and dr Gerhard Wegen (Gleiss Lutz, University of Tübingen Law School).
- Trainings for in-house lawyers
- Trainings for women candidates for arbitrators. The project promotes active participation of women in arbitration proceedings – through trainings and providing support in applying for the status of arbitrator. The first training will be organized on 12 March, 2010. It will be conducted by Miréze Philippe, a lawyer at the International Chamber of Commerce and the Co-President of ArbitralWomen, which gathers women in arbitration.
- A course of presentations for members of PCPE Lewiatan branch and regional associations .
The project continues till May 2011.
