Education

  • Doctor degrees in law (1959) and political sciences (1970) at the University of Vienna;
  • Diploma of the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (1960).


Career

  • Secretary General and President, now Honorary President of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC);
  • Federal Economic Chamber of Austria, Vienna, 1964 - 1995 (responsible for European Integration and the negotiations with EFTA and the European Communities), international arbitration and the Austrian National Committee of the ICC. 

Further experience:

  • Member of the delegation of Austria in the working group on international contract practices of UNCITRAL.


Arbitration experience

More than 180 international arbitrations worldwide, over 60 % of them as chairman, in ad-hoc arbitrations, arbitrations under the Vienna, the ICC and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the Rules of many other arbitration institutions.


Membership in organizations

  • Former Secretary General and Vice President of ICCA, now Honorary Vice President;
  • Former Vice President of LCIA;
  • Former Vice President of the Austrian Arbitration Association;
  • Member of ASA etc.


Publications

Author and publisher of numerous publications in journals and books about civil procedure law, international arbitration, Incoterms and international commercial law (especially CISG) in particular; Co-Author of the chapter about arbitration (§§ 577-618) in Rechberger, Kommentars zur ZPO.
